Day 153: Train/Heather

I had much better luck with getting out of the house for today's shot than I did yesterday. I had a volunteer project tonight at the Food Bank and left my house early so I could stop at one of the MAX stations along the way. I really like the way this one turned out.

Day 152: Planes/Heather

I was so excited to actually go outside and take a picture for a change. My boss told me there was a big plane in front of the Pearson Air Museum so I left work right on time to be sure to get over there before dark. Only to find out there is no plane. It is an active air field for small aircraft and I was able to find a couple of Cessnas in the area but didn't have my "big" zoom lens and couldn't get a good shot through the fence.

Luckily, I had a back up plan. When I worked for the Caterpillar dealership, every year we would exchange toys with our contacts at Pacific Pride. I have had this model plane for several years now-I left there at the beginning of 2003-and this is the first time it has come out of the box.

Day 151: Plates/Heather

I didn't want to use my dining set plates for this because they are kind of boring. When we got them, we picked a pattern that we felt had a simple, classic look to it so we wouldn't hate them in 20 years (they're non-breakable with a lifetime guarantee). Luckily, I remembered I have this cute set of little plates that were part of a Hallmark promotion a couple of years ago.

Day 150: Science/Heather

I saw this on an episode of "Mythbusters" and they did not say to not do this at home. If you put Mentos in Coke, it makes a geyser-and a mess! A huge thanks to my awesome friend Tasia for putting the Mentos in the Coke for me so I could get this shot.

Day 149: Shopping/Heather

After sleeping for 26 out of 36 hours from Wednesday night through this morning, I was feeling MUCH better. So I decided I would join my friends downtown for happy hour and the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony as planned. As we walked from the restaurant to Pioneer Square (which apparently someone was plotting to blow up), I snapped a couple of shots of some of the store fronts. I like this one because of the reflection of the Christmas lights on the trees along the sidewalk.

Day 148: Turkey/Heather

The downside to being sick on Thanksgiving and bailing on dinner so as to not infect others is there is no real turkey to take a picture of. I didn't really have the energy to come up with something creative so I just went online and found a picture of a turkey, copied it to Word and took a picture of the screen.

Day 147: Organization/Heather

We moved this theme a couple of times because of me. First, I didn't have my camera at work. Then I didn't go to work because of the weather. I could have done something else, but I really wanted this shot because I think it's funny.

Like most offices, we have a problem with leftovers disappearing or staying in the fridge unclaimed for way too long. After one of the owners discovered his raspberries had disappeared due to the assumption he was gone for the weekend and they'd go bad, the office manager created a solution to our refrigerator woes:

Day 146: Snow/Heather

We don't get snow here very often. And when we do, it's usually in December or January and typically melts right away. It started snowing Sunday afternoon and we got another dusting last night. Unlike Selina, who gets a real winter, here's my "huge" snowfall amount-and I got a lot compared to most of my friends.

Day 145: Heritage/Heather

I looked around the house to find things that I associate with my heritage. My genealogical research has shown me that I am primarily Scottish, English and Italian (and apparently German based on my last name). Here we have a little Scotsman in his kilt, tea, and pasta. As I'm still having a hard time establishing my German roots, I decided I could leave that one out.

This little earthenware bowl was a souvenir given to me several years ago by a former co-worker. She got it for me in Mexico. I have since started to collect little pottery vases when I travel-which sadly isn't very often.

Day 142: Yellow/Heather

Coincidentally, I was wearing a yellow sweater today but decided to go with something else. These Peeps have been in the cupboard for 3 years now. In 2007, James decided to be a chick magnet for Halloween after his co-worker gave him the idea. He decided to put a different spin on it and use "Bob Pinciotti"- a character from "That '70's Show" as his inspiration. And then he decided he wanted to attach "chicks" to his shirt. Do you know how hard it is to find Peeps in October? Being that I love a good challenge, I found the Peeps. These were leftover. I still have a bunch of blue ones as well.

Day 141: Starts with "Q"/Heather

There aren't a lot of things I could think of that start with "Q" - I narrowed it down between quilts and Q-tips and went with the Q-tips. I really like the way this one turned out.

Day 139: Office/Heather

My shots for today weren't that great but here is where I spend 40 hours of my life every week. I decided to go with a shot of my desk as this is a rare instance where it is actually clean! (Fun fact: My calendar's October picture is that of my co-worker's dog. He won a photo contest I told her about and then forgot to enter my own boys into).

Day 138: Paperweight/Heather

I don't know exactly how I ended up with this paperweight but I must have taken it after Dad died. All I know is when my brother and I were growing up, it sat on this weird glass plate that I can picture but can't even begin to describe and was just as 70's looking as this is. So it's been around for awhile and is special to me simply because it is something that has just always been there.

Day 137: Where in the World?/Heather

I chose this picture for two reasons. First, it was one of the few that wasn't blurry. Second, I have been thinking a lot lately about going on one of the build trips with Habitat for Humanity International next year for my vacation and the trip I am considering is to Honduras, which can be seen in this shot. (The other option I am toying with is Egypt).

Day 136: Wine/Heather

Hmmm...what does a single woman who's allergic to alcohol and whose plans for the evening are going to a family-friendly comedy show do when the theme is wine? Well, if she's this girl, she improvises by pouring herself a glass of cooking wine and snapping away. :) Unfortunately, whatever recipe I needed this for called for a dry, white wine, so it didn't photograph as well as a blush or red would have.

Day 134: Veteran's Day/Heather

I wanted to get a shot of a veteran in a parade for this, but there were two problems with that plan: one, I don't get Veteran's Day off and two, the parades in this area were held on the 6th. So I needed a back up plan. I thought about going to a local cemetery and finding the grave of a veteran but between work and a volunteer shift at the Food Bank, I didn't have enough free daylight hours to accomplish this.

My grandfather, who I never met, was in the Army. Below is a picture of his Army stripes sitting on a page from his service report, which I was able to obtain from the National Personnel Records Center as part of my genealogical research.

Day 133: Utensils/Heather

My initial thought for this theme was to just open the silverware drawer and snap a few shots. But then I decided to go for something a little different.

When my grandmother died in 2007, we had a garage sale to dispose of most of her belongings. Our day started off with a very persistent gentleman who was helpful with pricing but pushy in wanting to buy things before we were ready to start selling. He had his eye on some silverware and luckily before my aunt sold it to him, I noticed the pieces were engraved with the initials E. A. G. - initials belonging to my great-great-grandfather. As the official family historian, the pieces were entrusted to my care. Unfortunately, I didn't get a good shot of the initials but I like how this one turned out.

Day 132: Chair/Heather

If I had grabbed my camera this morning, I probably could have gotten some cool shots of the dentist chair. I had plenty of time to do so while waiting for the orthodontist to get to me! But I wasn't fully functioning this morning (stupid time change!) and it's a miracle I managed to leave the house without forgetting my shoes.

I wasn't thrilled with any of my shots for today but here is one of my kitchen chairs.

Day 131 - Safety First/Selina

Had I been smart, I would have taken the camera to work today with me.  But...my brain isn't functioning that quickly that early in the morning.  After dinner, I asked Morgan to get his bike helmet out for me so I could take a picture of that, but he has been helping Jeff and is learning to cut wood with some tool (I'm such a girl!) and he has been great about wearing his safety gear.  Morgan chose to do this instead of my original thought and I couldn't resist Morgan's goofy face with his Safety First gear on.  Silly boy but I love him!

Day 130: Coffee/Heather

Like Selina, I am not a fan of coffee. I can't stand the taste and I think the coffee aisle in the grocery store smells like skunks. And yet this somehow became a theme...

A couple of years ago, however, I was volunteering at Sand in the City on a hot July day and Starbucks was handing out samples. I knew I was going to hate it, but I was really hot and whatever they were handing out was some sort of iced coffee and therefore cold. And it didn't taste like coffee! There are days when I regret ever having tried the raspberry mocha frappucino with chocolate drizzle as I am now addicted to them.
