Day 257: Theater/Heather

This is the marquee from a theater in SE Portland that was purchased a few years ago by the Flying Pie Pizza Company and renovated. It's a cute little theater. I saw a movie here tonight for the first time with one of my Meetup groups. We were divided between those that saw "The Social Network" and those of us who saw "127 Hours."

Day 153: Train/Heather

I had much better luck with getting out of the house for today's shot than I did yesterday. I had a volunteer project tonight at the Food Bank and left my house early so I could stop at one of the MAX stations along the way. I really like the way this one turned out.

Day 105: Starts with "B"/Heather

Indian Summer is my favorite time of year and it never lasts long enough. As it won't be long before I am going to and coming home in the dark and the rainy season will make outside shots miserable, I wanted to take advantage of the beautiful day we had today and get an outdoor shot. I spent part of my lunch break driving around trying to find a cool, old barn but had no luck.

After work, I was volunteering at Schoolhouse Supplies, which is located on the campus of Portland's Madison High School. I was looking out the door, absently staring at the bleachers when I realized that was something that starts with "B." I had my camera with me so I went out and took a couple of pictures before the sun completely went down.

Day 67: Breakfast/Heather

We had to do some shuffling for today because boats just wasn't going to work. I was planning to go out to breakfast with my Meetup group tomorrow so I suggested we move fountain to today and do breakfast tomorrow. It worked better for Selina to leave fountain for tomorrow and do breakfast today. So I texted one of my friends last night to see if she would meet me for brunch today at a little place in SE Portland called Slappy Cakes.

Slappy Cakes is awesome. They have little grills at the tables were you can make your own pancakes. You have your choice of 4 or 5 types of batter and you can add toppings either while they are cooking or to the top. They also have menu items they will cook for you. We decided to do a combination and split pancakes and an entree. I ordered the pancakes with strawberries for me, bananas for her and chocolate chips to share and she ordered the daily special which was migas with toast and breakfast potatoes (I would go back just for the potatoes).

I took some fun shots of our pancakes on the grill, but the shot that turned out best was the one I took of the migas (which was delicious).

Day 65: Sunset/Heather

I asked if we could move sunset to tomorrow because I was meeting friends after work for dinner at the Cheesecake Factory (yum!) and shopping. I was afraid I was going to lose track of time and miss the sunset. Plus, I wasn't sure how good of a shot I could get from a mall parking lot.

Ultimately, I promised Selina I would do my best to not lose track of time. And that is exactly what I did. My friends and I just happened to be passing the front door of Macy's at the right time for one of them to say "pretty sunset," at which point I gasped so loudly I scared them both. We were on the way to the cash register and I tossed my stack of clothes to one of them and ran out to take a couple of pictures, only giving them a brief explanation before bolting out of the store (luckily, they know about this so that was all that was needed!). I gave an explanation using full sentences when I returned to the store.

Day 55: Stairs/Heather

Stairs are actually one of my favorite things to shoot. A few weeks ago, I went to see "Guys and Dolls" at Laurelhurst Park in Portland and I knew I wanted to use the stairs there when the time came.

I drove over to the park after work and was a bit disappointed with the lighting. I was actually torn between two pictures for this post-the one I didn't choose is just the top part of the stairs and I like the way the light is coming through the trees better on that one. I chose this one because it gives more of the full effect of the staircase. This picture is of just the top half.

Day 49: Sphere/Heather

When I saw that "sphere" was the theme for yesterday, I asked if we could switch it with "seam." A couple of weeks ago at "Flicks on the Bricks," my friend won 4 tickets to a Portland Beavers game and gave one of them to me. We decided to go to tonight's game.

Director's Park is right across the street from the parking garage I parked in for the game. This is a new park in Portland and has a huge sphere in front of the fountain that is dedicated to teachers. As the non-profit I do most of my volunteering for is for Portland Public school teachers and directly benefits their students, I knew I wanted this for my sphere.
